This kind of thinking, is actually a wide view of a topic; it’s when the thinker, often a designer thinks about all of the connections to a smaller topic. This is sometimes called creative thinking, the idea of not staying super focused on the specific cause, but looking more at what makes up that cause and what branches off from that initial cause. All careers follow this similar way of thinking broadly, each career just uses specific words that may often confuse those not in the field. A doctor or scientist being concerned about side effects is similar to designers being worried about connotations that viewers will have on the colors, images and other designs that are used…it’s something that is out of control of the original creator and up to the user to interact positively to the prescription drug or product.
good citizenship.
Design in the United States is for the most part disconnected from current political going on-s. Many other countries’ designs are closely related to social or political going on-s, thus their design cannot be fully understood or appreciated unless one knows what is going on in that country or area of the world. Most non-profit organizations, the ones often pushing for change, have the least amount of resources i.e. funds for causing the impact that they want/paying designers to do work for them that would create large impact. The article is stating that non-profit designing should try to become part of the curriculum in design school because it allows wider conversations and the ability to think more in depth on meaning and depictions of graphic elements used.
