spatial. the poetic final.

AFFIX THE VESTIGE, meaning to attach a trace of something that is disappearing/no longer exists. Our aim was to focus on commemorating how the Darby Steel Corporation was the main builder of landing craft tanks during WWII. It would allow visitors to experience the landing craft for themselves as it is beached onto land, overlooking the KAW Point, which is where the Darby Steel Corporation used to place the LCT in the river to send downstream.

indie culture. the final.
Below is the closest yet rendering of the cross-platform media of Resound. We acknowledge that we still have more work to do to make it an adequately cohesive system. Between this version + the last one that was presented in class, we aimed to create more clarification between different users + platforms, but know there still is prime opportunity for more refinement. Throughout the process, I believe that our own personal high standards were reoccurring places of frustration. Not only do the three of us have high standards, but we also have different areas that we place those standards. Also, working in a group of three was difficult as we all had different work habits and design styles. The resulting video hopefully represents the three of us in some format.

KC Fringe. phase 04. final presentation + rebrand book.
The Kansas City Fringe Festival is more than just a festival for performance art + creative expression; we are an ever-growing creative family. We have continued to fulfill Kansas City’s need to: explore edgy art, experience new art genres, allow artists to explore their own art, as well as present live production at an affordable cost. The Kansas City Fringe Festival will continue to be a place where people can take chances, not only as an artist, but also as an audience member as long as you need us to help bring expressive freedom to the community. Kansas City's festival occurs yearly and is a packed 10 day adventure into various forms of art and expression including acts such as burlesque, puppetry, dance, fashion, music, theater, and much more.

Sculpt Enigma KC allows you to discover sculptures within the Kansas City Sculpture Park via riddles/clues. Once finding + verifying that you did find the sculpture, information about the sculpture is available.
the lesson. final.
This project is brought to you by the combined/morphed systematic minds of two graphic designers: Wendy + De Sando.
After an interview + research, Wendy+I came to the conclusion that our minds thought in a similar system but with a different method. We delved further to find where our systems connected and made one larger system, which our two methods as the ends of the spectrum. Both our our systems dealt with omission, whether that be based on our narratives jumping from one scene to the next, or the abstracted phrases of free form poetry. Therefore, we decided that the definition + visualization of ellipsis was the best word to name our system.
Ellipsis is defined as the omission of one or more words that are understood.
ELLIPSIS is two perspectives on the structure of information. This is the way in which all words and phrases are placed in order with meaning, but moving one piece of that information, the whole structure is at risk of changing meaning or being interpreted incorrectly.
THE DIVERGE METHOD is restructuring information based on changing small moments that change how the viewer interprets the message. This method focuses is on the user’s ability to directly relate to the text through the English standard of reading, left to right, top to bottom.
THE DISPERSE METHOD is the deconstruction of information to form new meaning. There is no clear focus initially, causing the viewer to search in the unknown. This method focuses on each user finding their own connection to the piece.
These methods are further explained through use of highly descriptive statements or abstractly constructed phrases. The booklets reflect the differences in method and similarities in message with corresponding pages. Basically, we compared my initial text/narrative that I was working with "Your Life As A Poet" and compared+broke down Wendy's final poetic text and found oddly enough similarities in the story being told. So, we decided to place those pieces across from each other to help future designers look more closely at how they are aiming to connect to the user. It is also to help designers look closer at their own structuring/restructuring of information.

Fiesta in the Park: help Frida & Diego find their friends!
Our(Kim+my) concept revolved around finding Frida & Diego’s friends in the park; their friends were the pre-determined actions of each of the six sculptures that the Nelson-Atkins design team had selected. Each sculpture is a different tomato/friend that is a different color with a different mustache.
While in the Bloch Lobby, Museum guests will receive the booklet. From there the guests are prompted to stop by the Zócalo outside, where they will receive their map and clue sheet. Each clue is a different sculpture and friend to visit and learn about. Upon visiting each friend, the clue sheet will be punched. After having visited all of Frida & Diego’s friends, the Museum guest is to head back to the Zócalo where they will officially join the Stache Crew and receive a free bracelet.
On the back of the informational cards, there are art related activities that revolve around the action of the sculpture. It prompts the guest to draw or write about the certain action, upload online and tag the post with the Stache Crew hashtag. The Nelson-Atkins will then collect all those posts, create a slideshow and post on their Facebook and website.

"the installation of interpretation"
Writing in general is one of those areas where the style is most often dictated by the author + not the viewer. Though there are circumstances that allow the viewer to dictate order, meaning, placement and really change any part of the writing that they want. For creative exercises, often writers will mimic the style of other writers or of a specific piece; the intent at this point is not plagiarism, but to look further at the form and structure of letters upon a page. These moments are often supposed to flatter the writer. That idea combined with the idea of many poets and writers to want the viewer to get whatever message they can out of their work is the accumulation of this installation.
It also appears as a bit of a breakdown of the text, from the first "original" form of Camus' words to the abstracted form based on restructured lines and poetic images of the text. Within this installation are five different interpretations of Camus' first paragraph from A Happy Death. The first two are highly focused on selective word choice display. The third is focused on a "designer gut" placing+overlaying images in Photoshop that appeared to connect. The fourth focused on moving far away from the initial structure of the sentences, hiding the phrases that she felt was most important and even "discarding" phrases/images that were "unnecessary." The fifth focused on restructuring the phrases into a poetic voice that resinated with the designer. Images in color were considered complex/layered and thus added another layer of information by adding color, where as the black and white compositions were less complex.

collection. the final reveal.
The Chosen Mug is now online! Come check out my online curated mug collection. Come get to know a bit about 24 graphic designers and their favorite mug! The main theme for the website was getting to know and tell the story of an item that many of us, especially designers love but may not share their importance. I think memories as a general whole are a very important part of our foundation; which means that we know better who someone through is simply learning about their items, their quirks...and simply, what makes them their self, unique and that amazing of a person.
Feel free to check it out live here( or http://design.kcai-sites.com/students/adesando/thechosenmug/)

*nice personality in sentimental roll over
*very audience engaging
*work with a darker translucent box on reveal pages
*add another category onto reveal page, "my music" seems a bit disconnected

subculture. final.
For this project, we were to brand a set of three consumable products for Acme, an organic company based in Urbana, IL based on a subculture that we received; mine was the American Mafia. I narrowed the specific audience to males between the ages of 21–60 that enjoyed watching mafia related movies and wished that they were part of the American Mafia with the perfect woman, family, car, job, fighting to protect who and what they love. There are always many social events in Mafia movies, let alone get together in the real world with people in their 20s and up, so the idea of branding a set of liquor bottles came as the biggest nod to not only the targeted audience, but also the topic of the Mafia. It also pulls in the direct connotation that many associate with the Mafia is the Prohibition and bootlegging in the 1920s. The main attributes that I was focused on was dominance, family, loyalty, goal oriented, stylish.

the practical. final. how to make sangria.
the final video.
The main concept for this video was to focus on simple, easy-to-understand step yet humorous/fun way to make sangria. It should always be a party, whether you're making or drinking sangria.
video testers.
these are images from the 61 year old female user-tester during the process+share with friends.
Other than those images posted above, said tester also stated: was surprised that the five minutes of the video had gone by so fast, was entertained but informed throughout the whole thing, seemed more than simple enough to create, sound wasn’t the clearest, have a more specific measurement for sugar?, the music and transition was nice, the fruit looked really nice and fresh, the visuals in the beginning of sangria places was cool, and the sound effects were fun.
28, male who stated that: the word sangria is spelled wrong, the rolling fruits are fun, likes the transitions, the voice over changes distractingly at 4:40, overall it was fun and seems easy, maybe I’ll make it this summer.
28, male who stated that: the word sangria is spelled wrong, the rolling fruits are fun, likes the transitions, the voice over changes distractingly at 4:40, overall it was fun and seems easy, maybe I’ll make it this summer.
31, male who stated that: looks pretty cool, sound is a bit off & could be louder, is that a normal kitchen knife?, transitions were cool and helped to tie in the scenes together, recipe is super simple, easy to follow, can’t wait for the nice weather to come back to enjoy outside.
Overall with the feedback, we realized that the video as a whole was pretty solid and our main video theme/aim was received! We already knew that the sounded need a bit of work and we pushed to fix that for our final.
