collection. the final reveal.

The Chosen Mug is now online! Come check out my online curated mug collection. Come get to know a bit about 24 graphic designers and their favorite mug! The main theme for the website was getting to know and tell the story of an item that many of us, especially designers love but may not share their importance. I think memories as a general whole are a very important part of our foundation; which means that we know better who someone through is simply learning about their items, their quirks...and simply, what makes them their self, unique and that amazing of a person.

feedback.
*nice personality in sentimental roll over
*very audience engaging
*work with a darker translucent box on reveal pages
*add another category onto reveal page, "my music" seems a bit disconnected
*pin navigation tabs on top

collection. the landing photographing.

Below are some of the different image angles + styles that I was looking into with the landing page. I went with the idea of a china cabinet and the connotation that comes with it; the idea of objects being almost priceless, held to high esteem, and near and dear to the heart.

*get rid of landing page? think of a better overall photo of the group that represents my main style focus?
*get rid of links on bottom of landing/the double navigation
*darken brown?
*darken white box on the reveal page
*take out "click to find out" but add line element?
*use black+white on links to show larger difference in color on hovers
*lower opacity of image on the page that you're on for the mugs
*no centered text says allyson

collection. the revised styles + infographs 1.

Below are the revisions of layout + style based on feedback from Marty Maxwell Lane last class. I'm still trying to figure out the specific rendering style of photography for the context shots. Within these sets are the context shots focused on Studio desk.

sort page option A with hover example.

sort page option B with hover example.

whole layout optionA.

total number of mugs infograph.

mug diameter infograph.

height infographs.

other variations of color combinations.

feedback from Marty Maxwell Lane.
*work with placement of sentimental sort title. should it be a question? do all sorts allow for questions?
*use copywriting skills to pump up the text on the layouts(sorts+questions)
*text was getting too small on infograph of the favorite tea/coffee shops
*get rid of "this is"
*still work with reveal page. try the image all the way up towards top
*work with brown bar(s) + white opacitied box for questions+answers on reveal
*anchor top higher
*rename "state/country association" to "location association" ?
*work more with presentation in browser for checking layout

collection. the website styles.

The rendering of the mugs are taking much longer than I had initially expected, so I'm not as far as I would like to be, but further than last class. I've also been having some problems cutting the mug shape out, so if I end up going with that display option I will need to find a better way to pull the cup out from the backgrounds and not look so horribly digitally crafted.

style 3 reveal.

Marty Maxwell Lane feedback.
*go with third style
*keep full opacity background
*either sort option is good, try both?
*move number ranking to hover state?/find better placement
*set up a few color palates/current set doesn't quite mesh well
*try all capitals for different pages links
*don't change color mid-sentence
*indicate in some form that reveal of mug is below infograph/users may be momentarily disoriented
*use more bold type in reveal, look towards style 2 as inspiration
*integrate link/icons to other mugs better
*test information on reveal both grouped together + integrated on image, but have consistency through all mugs in placement

feedback:
*CUT BACK ON THE TEXT! too editorial as is
*go with: main page layout 3 + sort layout 1 (without the descriptors of sort method) + object/mug reveal 1 (without ALL the text)
*be more image heavy than current text heavy (or maybe just more awesome design heavy)
*have main page layout be not just buttons but more personal, image of each sort as in favorite mug or most specific mug for that sort type (think curation at a museum, those hand out pamphlets to come see exhibit)
*likes navigation from style number 3
*for infographs, if planning on having them at thumbnail size, redesign so that the graph can be read that small + design the graph for larger view as well OR just avoid thumbnail size (aka REDESIGN layouts)
*likes the gridded style/ability to see all mugs in view when looking at reveal page
