Burial laws vary by state and county. But as long as you own your own place it is acceptable to bury on your property in most states. Not all states require you to have a body embalmed before it is buried. The county that you live in can dictate how deep you must bury the body. Burial of dead bodies is sacred in many cultures and religions. Native American tribes are one example of a group of people that have a history wide with variety of burial customs. Ancient Egyptians are one group of people that were known for their burial customs of pharaohs to the process of condemning criminals to an afterlife worse than death. Even though burials are common practice in human culture across the world, the actual preparations and “ceremony” change based on where one lives, social class level, reason for burial, religion, and their thoughts on afterlife.
