Project "U"

Our first assignment was to use what we learned about semiotics on day one and design a self-portrait. We were to use an icon, index, and symbol.

An Icon is a direct representation of an object that can be recognized and imitates the object. So I chose to go with a photograph of myself, more dressed up than normal, with a raised eyebrow and a side smirk. An Index is not a direct representation but indicates something, may point to or is a physical mark related to the object. I chose KMFDM, because KMFDM t-shirts are part of my wardrobe staple. There are over 30 KMFDM t-shirts and hoodies in my current collection of apparel. The Symbol was supposed to describe ourself using typography only to explain us. I chose my last name, because I love my last name more than my first name. Even though I have not met too many Annas in my lifetime; I feel the last name speaks louder than the first. I chose to split up my last name to show the emphasis on each part. The final product is folded so each object is an equal third.
