VA midterm self reflection.

I feel like I have attended a lot of meetings, but not done a ton of work yet. Designing of a logo is not my strongest area of design, so the class to me as felt pretty lackluster at the moment design wise. I also realize that we as a class first needed to brand the Neighborhood before we started working on our various areas, but that branding process felt very drawn out to me and not focused, thus causing us to take longer in that area. I feel better at home now in working on the brand standards files and figuring out what the details are going to be for Historic Manheim Park Association's logo/mark now. My group has been dealing with personalities or simply the members not always getting along (I know we all had issues at one point or another), which is super representative of life outside of school, not primarily a school only scenario. I think we are still working as a team, just figuring out the best way to structure our time for that. The rest of time left is class is pushing forward with our current thoughts about where our group is focused, changing a bit based on how the Neighborhood board sees it + then simply presenting those ideas. It's a totally attainable goal right now + my plan is to keep it that way...and then eventually finish that goal.

Design Systems. midterm self reflection.

Re-branding/branding is a totally different field of design than I'm semi-comfortable with. I've been struggling a lot mentally with the further developing of ideas. I think I know verbally + example wise of how/where I want to continue to go, but the actual creating + visually developing is what I am really struggle at. I have definitely been moving at a slower than recommended pace but I am pretty confident that I should be able to swing back into where I need to be soon. I think that I also need to try to really delve more into the visuals of the Fringe Festival, examples of the acts that the other festivals are doing. Even though my classmates keep making comments about how my logos have and have not been representing the event, most of them too have never been to the festival. So, I need to get better informed to figure out when their feedback and comments is helping and when it's hindering. But overall I am definitely in a much better place than I could have been a week or two ago.

midterm. self-assessment. hello.

Based on course objectives, I would state that I have adequately met the goals set forth in this class. I transformed a newspaper into online environment with various levels of interaction and the ability to tailor information via articles, images and videos as the user saw fit. My translation was in keeping the news at a most likely unrealistic state, not bombarding the user with the amount of articles, videos and images that are in the world on a regular basis. My typography was nothing beautifully crafted/chosen but it did adequately meet project + visibility objectives on web. I did not use hierarchy as much to my advantage as I could have, but it was not horrendous either. I did not incorporate visual trends for the web in my newspaper redesign, but am aiming to incorporate that more into my collection website. I'm currently in the process of researching and developing an interactive website where I hope to provide evidence of my ability to typeset and design.

midterm. self-assessment. hello.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already halfway through the 2013 Spring Semester. I feel as if I don’t have much to show for thus far, which then makes it difficult to adequately assess myself. Project 1 ending definitely marked a new era in my design workbook. The project moved me out of my normal comfort zone through use of comedy, non-traditional type and live-action video; so in that aspect I am growing. I’d say that I haven’t pushed myself as hard as I could, that there still is that part of me that is holding back + I really need to kick it back into drive. I’m trying more to work with those around me to further aid both of our designs. I’m still hesitating in general + need to work more with my heart + words than only my pensive, often back tracking mind. I need to get like Billy Pilgrim(reference: Slaughterhouse-Five) and get “unstuck in time,” reliving and/or living for the first time various events all blending together to find the original me.
