We were to choose a quote that went along with the AIGA mission statement and was stated by a graphic designer. The quote that I chose
was “Design is application of intent —the opposite of happenstance and the
antidote to accident” by Robert L. Peters. He is a current graphic designer
that lives in Canada. Peters is an active leader in graphic design associations
in Canada. His quote really caught me by surprise, because I fully agreed with
it. I believe that there is always a reason to design; it’s never just made to
be made, there is always a purpose. This also goes along with the AIGA mission
statement with the idea that design is a vital cultural force.
Although my process started out very shaky, I believe that
the window wrap illustrating my quote came together quite nicely. My intent was
present one fluid thought that spanned along the side of the building to the
front. I placed the quote along the side to keep the viewer to follow the quote
all the way to the front door; to entice them to come in. Although I set my
main audience to be someone walking past the building; I chose to use my
compositions that helped to create a continuous and focused composition with my
graphic compositions.
I struggled quite a bit with the animation. I am still trying
to figure how to relate design, text, and image to motion. This is a very
useful tool for design; this is something that I need to master. I ended up
keeping my focus on the quote and adding in the window panels as the
transitions to bring lines of text together to create one overall idea; which essentially
was the main point of the project.
