concept 1: the text based.
This is based on the idea of a scrolling electronic marquee. All of the main sections will have their own line with the most important or newest article to be scrolling on the main page. There are direct links for the main sections on the right, next to the scrolling article. If you choose a specific article it will pop up.
concept 2: the AP News/overall newsfeed based.
The focus for this is on an almost newsfeed. A very rigid structure where the main focus on the home page is set up as the top articles in each section. There is a section bar on the left to simply jump to specific categories. When you click on a specific section, it will jump to another page where the sub sections are listed and you can jump to specific sections from there.
concept 3: the image based.
The focus was on seeing the image of the articles first, then the text. The home page would have eight squares that came together in the direct center. The images would all be in full color and most likely zoom-ins of the original image. When you would hover over one of the squares however, the image would gray out and the title of the article would appear. You could click directly to that article or click the section link and jump to the section. At the section you can roll through all of the articles via only scanning through the images and decide whether or not to read the article. There is also a search feature starting on the homepage where you can search a subsection, section, or other key hashtag-esk words and jump to those results.feedback from my small class crit group:
they really liked the idea of concept 1, but thought that I should add in the image aspect of concept 3 in some form, as the images are very spars in concept1. also maybe make the image shape a circle, as USA TODAY uses circles prominently.
feedback from Professor Marty Maxwell Lane:
first off, sketch more in depth, so that my ideas/concept can be more quickly understood. also think more about what I want to do, in general. definitely think about the audience of the newspaper, but also keep in mind the way that you would best want to navigate the website. maybe find a way of marrying the two ideas of text based + image based...or what about video based? one website but different navigating features?
