Response: "why graphic design?"

I am a speaker who uses their hands not only to direct your attention but also to use them to further explain and to express an idea.  Also, I am a visual thinker, whom believes that it’s easier to communicate with others through the use of comparisons, images, and text.  I am a lover of the written word, and cannot imagine a world where art does not exist.  I feel that graphic design is a fusion of the two that can make more connection with the observer than one amazingly written work or one brilliant piece of visual art.  Graphic Design has the ability to persuade, trick, educate, and play with your perceptions of the world.  In my own life, I fully embrace this through my style, personality, and life; I like to portray the unexpected.  I also feel that it was a realistic transition to choose a career that not only relies on the work that my hands produce on the computer, but also involves the visual aspect of presenting the piece to the client or public.  Graphic Design is the portrayal of thoughts, ideas, and messages through text and image.  The ability to combine all of these items and still make an interesting design is what attracts me visually to the career.  Currently East Central and East European graphic designers inspire my art.  From El Lissitzky’s classic designs of the early twentieth century, to current Prague-based designer Brute (Aidan Hughes), I am inspired by visually diverse graphical art.  I believe that design is the product of what one interacts with, rearranging what is found, and strategically placing to define a larger issue.
