VisCom1: Reading Response

My definition of Graphic Design expanded after having read the articles and watched the video.  I already knew that Graphic Design was the combination of images, text and ideas.  I knew that as graphic designers we have the ability to make a world of change just through how we choose to layout a design.  Although I have been dabbling in the field for a few years now, I did not fully realize all of what I was doing.  It’s one thing to just do the designs, but nothing amazing will come out of those designs unless you realize your audience and how much impact you can actually make.  You need to know why you’re designing each aspect as you are, because without it you’re just guessing and that’s not design.  Design is well thought out, prepared and combined beautifully together.  In relation to the current project, I did not really think that graphic design existed without text.  I know that this may not sound the best, but I always combined the two in my mind: text and images.  I knew that design could also be just text, but I never thought just images could be design.  I am realizing with this project how much I rely on words to describe my designs and add to them, when in reality the image should be able to speak for itself.  I found it very interesting the range of skills that designers need.  I knew that there was a wide range of companies or clients that we may end up working for, but did not bring into account the mass amounts of information that I will need to know to do well on each project.

  1. HI Anna,

You'll notice the style of this body copy is different than your other posts. This one is definitely easier to read. I'd make them all consistent.
