subculture. more style work.

Some more process work, running through some other ideas. Nothing is solid gold here, but closer to a more cohesive and more interesting set.

subculture. some more research.

I went back into research mode to put myself back on track for my packaging.

stage 1: hard liquor packing (by Stranger and Stranger).

stage 2: the subculture descriptive words.
classy hats, handkerchiefs, ties, bow-ties, pinstripe suits, suits, cigars, coins, bill rolls/stacks, black, dark colors, guns, fights, women in white in expensive clothing, flowers, death, family

stage 3: words/phrases used in films by mobsters.
boss, burn, bump off, drop/drop off, knock off, muscle, outfit, pinch, wire

first steps towards the rebranding (no where near where I want it to go, but slow movement).
trying to work with the focusing of the label onto smaller, beautiful moments of interaction.

the first is the front bottle label, the second is the reverse that you could see through the back of the bottle or side and the third was the back label

subculture. first mock ups.

I had a lot of trouble in the actual designing of the packaging. The keywords that I chose to associate with the subculture did not mesh well together in my mind. I kept trying to figure a way to combine them but not have one really dominate the others (ha). I think I need to think more like my subculture and try to figure how to focus on one overall theme/message but have a more hidden objective without being super obvious that is what is happening. I want it to be more like when you unexpectedly receive a package that you ordered a while ago but forgot about or when you receive something in the mail from an old friend that you hadn't communicated with in years.

my keywords are: dominance, family, loyalty, goal oriented, stylish.

front view of bottles, pinstripes referencing elegant suits/old time gangsters.

back of bottles, color band references alcohol type from front label to see what type from all angles.

side view of the bottles, easy visual access to what you're in for.

top brand logo on seal to insure no one has tampered with your drink.
feedback:
*bottle is a good, strong shape
*if going more authentic/historic think tinted bottles

subculture. basics. beginning sketches.

keywords:  dominance, family, loyalty, goal oriented, stylish.
product wise: I'm going with a line of alcohol, as in whiskey, rum + moonshine.
concept: I plan on the name Acme being the largest, most dominant part of the label/bottle design, so I've been pushing around type examples below.

logo sketches+thumbnails:
slab serif. main bottle + flask.

serif with varying thick + thin lines.

playing around with some typeface options via hand method.

computer typeface options thus far:

my subculture. the persuasive. mood boards/panels.

My "chosen from a hat" subculture is the American Mafia. The American Mafia is an italian-american secret criminal society in cities scattered throughout the United States. They were a big proponent in alcohol distribution, especially during the Prohibition. They practically owned the cities that they were based in, paying off police officers + chiefs to let them continue their illegal means, killing as they wanted either for revenge or get rid of competition. The Mafia still exists today.

panel1: the consumer.
The specifics of this consumer is: a fan of Mafia/gangster films, male, 20s-60s, lower to upper middle class really wanting to be wealthy, is self-motivated to attain goals often relating to own or loved ones, either has the perfect family or lover/significant other, needs to hold dominance + prove that he has power/prove himself, dresses formal or fashionable (often a suit+tie), often wears expensive jewelry to further show off wealth+power, money is power, violence is useful+needed to maintain power status, weapons are useful in protection of loved ones, friends+family should always be avenged, there's nothing better than his significant other, his sports car and alcohol. Even though women are not in the target audience, there is a high chance that women too will become customers, especially those that want to be dominated/told what to do.

panel 2: the usage scenario.
This is the how + where the product would/will be consumed. The product is alcohol, most likely a dark hard liquor; a higher end/more expensive brand. Consumption and/or purchase would take place at casinos, horse races, dinner parties, weddings, birthdays, barbecues, bars, restaurants, at the kitchen table, etc. The alcohol would be sipped out of expensive + beautiful glasses and may often be drank with cigarettes or cigars.

panel 3: the inspiration.
The inspiration for these products is heavily coming from the 1920s, fashion + gangsters from the Prohibition Era. Hand-drawn or vintage typography will most likely be used on the packaging design. The aim is for it to not only say gangsters but also exclusive and expensive but worth all the hassle.

feedback:
*add more imagery in the consumer that shows that they are heavily family related.
*think about changing the consumer to be the woman/female; it'd be interesting + great addition in my 20 second elevator speech
*focus on elegant but murderers/violent
*think of Detroit as inspiration?
*maybe liquor+cigars?
*heavily rely on reveal for packaging, to show the other side
*be unexpected with the audience
*figure keywords + label panels

more images to now be added to consumer(to make more emotional less violent).

[P2] the persuasive. subculture post.

The Goth and Vampire Culture pretty much go hand in hand, as both have pretty much been influenced by the other. The Goth culture, the style aesthetic and actions associated with the culture were influenced by Bauhaus(band), as well as vampires. Both groups can be visually identified by their pale skin, black/dark clothes and the entourage that they normally hangout in. Both groups thrive heavily on the group as a whole and coming together as a family.

The cultures have become so large through their continued spread into popular culture via books, movies, TV show and music. Thus, through the channels of TV and movies, there are even more avenues of exposure through drinks, clothes and home furnishings. Both groups have a big desire to live long, in a world full of pleasure and basically do as they wish. And just as the current culture is inspired by media, the image of the group continues to mold based on popular views of the material, aka tv movies/celebrities. Yes, many wear fangs(they have evolved past plastic onesie fangs) with dental caps or undergo dental word to attain fangs.

The interesting part about this culture is that the individuals within it are well-read not only in the world, but often of those cultures that not only build off theirs but many of the surroundings, such as other supernatural based groups.
