I had a bit of a difficult time trying to figure the best way to create a visually appealing image with text. So, I thought about each word and what I associate with each. Below are my digital attempts so far. I like my designs to be simple, yet complex or simple yet makes you think.
I thought that inventing always involved a lot of trial and error. I used this idea by rearranging the letters to spell the word inventing.
I thought that memories are similar to the eye test that you take at the doctor's office. Dependent on how you respond to each question you will have a different outcome. At the doctors if you if you lie about how you see a line of text, you could be given the wrong prescription. If you lie to yourself or something else about a memory, you could be harming yourself for the future. Both are also repetitive events that you can try to forget, but if you do, you may effect your future.
My focus for this one was on how a zipper interacts with material. I tried a couple different variations of this one, but felt that the text spoke louder and was interacting more when I played with the tracking in each line.
I wanted to stay away from a stereotypical shape, so I pushed myself to delve deeper into what my definition of love is. Love does not always make sense, and it does not always connect two beings. Instead of the "lo" and "ve" connecting, I chose to connect the "le" and "ov." Often, our definitions of love do not match, and to go along with that I have the "le" and the "ov"as two separate parts. You can't always see where love will begin and end, but often you know one of the sides, so in this case, I did not want to put all of the L as part of the image.
My idea was to keep a tight knit community as the central focus. I also went with the idea that within one community is actually multiple smaller communities. Even though it may seem as though there are multiple communities or groups of people, we are all actually a part of the same overall community. So I made "unity" the bottom line of the whole image and sporadically spread around letters that make up community within the larger word community.
I was going for complex yet simple. I kept all letters the same size, but played around with adding condensed, bold, oblique, and combinations of a few of those. I thought that if something were truly alternative it would not be a straight on shot, but instead it would be off center, so I tilted the word. I also had a mirrored reflection to show that often we do not know what was once the normal, and which was the alternative.
